A deeper dive into projects, our process, philosophy & history.
Script and Screen
The script can be the most subjective aspect of any video project. Whether it’s an on screen delivery, a narration or even something more off the cuff, if it includes all the necessary information it can be difficult to judge any script too harshly. However, there is one single tactic that I always fight for over & over again when developing a script for any project. And it comes in many different forms.

Feel Your Love
One of the benefits of being a freelancer is the wide variety of new people you meet and all the random opportunities that present themselves. I was contacted by a client of mine to shoot some ‘hometown videos’ for a new show that was being produced called “American Song Contest”. The show had 50 bands from each state compete against each other to decide who had the best song.

Location, Location, Location
This project was a fun one! The idea of the campaign was to create a ‘That 70’s Show’ vibe where the camera is set in the middle of the talent and pans around to reveal each actor. We were tasked with completing 4 spots, each including 4 actors, in 4 different locations. Totaling 16 setups. All in one day.

A Comedic Tilt
Not every project holds up when revisiting it 10 years later. However, this one really gave me a chuckle. Especially considering the recent trend of regional advertising heading in a much more conservative and literal direction.

Clear Cut Concept
This was one of the first times my experience as an editor gave me a significant advantage in pitching, concepting and ultimately executing a project. Pitches from other directors were focused on elaborate rigging. Either suspending the camera over a very wide table top set or another which would use a rolling background to move all the elements horizontally underneath the camera.

Infomercial Invitation
Somehow, every year that passes since this was created it becomes more entertaining to re-visit. What started as a ridiculous idea, only became more absurd as the project progressed.

A Blank Slate
Often, when a script for a project is delivered to an editor it is accompanied by a variety of assets. Video, audio, design files or even photography. In this instance, the script was ready to go, approved by the client and ready for editing but accompanied by only the client’s logo. Not even a visual direction was written into the script.

Sex Sells?
Looking back on old projects can be a very interesting glimpse into the past. Often filled with outdated trends and styles. When rewatching, some of these projects hold up to modern scrutiny better than others. To say that the advertising industry has changed over the past decade is a massive understatement. The adage ‘sex sells’ was pervasive and often gratuitous up until the early 2000’s when it was at its peak.
